About Shannon McIntyre

Founder & Project Manager, Synchronic Services

With a professional background spanning architecture, general contracting, and nonprofit leadership, I founded Synchronic Services to fill a critical gap in the building industry. Too often, visionary organizations are forced to choose between managing their mission and managing a construction site. I believe you should be able to do both.

My journey to this work wasn't a straight line, but every step taught me exactly how the building industry works. I studied Architecture at Pennsylvania State University and went on to practice architecture in Pittsburgh, PA, for a few years before moving over to a design-build general contractor. While there, I had the rare opportunity to supervise the construction of a building I had designed. During that project, a trip to visit a friend in Seattle changed everything—I fell in love with the Pacific Northwest, and within a year, I packed up and moved.

Once in Seattle, I began working as a construction project manager for Turner Construction, a massive national general contractor. I was good at my job, and I kept my client’s happy while making the company good money. I learned the ins and outs of commercial construction, contract structures, and challenging negotiations. In short: I know exactly how the game is played.

But along the way, my focus shifted. I was introduced to Construction for Change (CfC), a nonprofit providing owner’s rep services. I started volunteering locally on World Relief Western Washington’s Paradise Parking Plots, and in 2019, I took a sabbatical to volunteer in Uganda, helping CfC build a vital center for midwifery.

That trip was a total game-changer. When I returned home, the sheer scale of waste and misaligned priorities in corporate commercial construction frustrated me. I decided to leave Turner, reached out to CfC, and stepped directly into running a national disaster relief shelter program for them in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Eventually, I transitioned into expanding their local Pacific Northwest portfolio and even stepped up to serve as their Interim Executive Director. That leadership role was a masterclass in the realities of running a mission-driven organization—giving me firsthand insight into exactly how to align capital goals with operational survival.

When CfC underwent an organizational restructuring that eliminated my role, I was already in the field managing the early construction phases of the White Center Food Bank's major relocation project. Recognizing the momentum we had built, the White Center Food Bank immediately hired me directly to oversee their project.

During that build, working closely alongside their Executive Director and the project's architecture firm, it became clear that the nonprofit sector desperately needed independent, technically fierce advocacy. Their encouragement and the clear market demand for my unique combination of design insight, contractor accountability, and mission empathy became the direct catalyst for launching Synchronic Services.

Today, my commitment to this work is deeply personal. Having also had the privilege of serving on several boards, I deeply understand the importance of an involved, visionary board and the fundraising pressures that come with a capital expansion. I’ve sat on your side of the table, and I’ve stood on the contractor's job site. My goal is to act as your independent advocate, translating the complexities of the construction world into clear, actionable data so you can protect your budget and stay focused on the community you serve.

Testimonials

The most valuable part of working with Shannon was her exceptional communication and collaborative approach. She has a unique ability to foster strong relationships both internally and externally. Shannon guided me and the White Center Food Bank team through complex construction terminology in a clear, nonjudgmental way, and effectively communicated with contractors on our behalf without compromising our values. I also deeply appreciate her openness to learning and her humility as she prioritizes the best outcome over personal recognition.

Shannon brought a thoughtful, steady approach to our construction project and was a critical partner in navigating the inevitable challenges that arise during the process. Her collaborative style helped ensure strong communication, problem-solving, and overall project quality.

If someone were considering working with her, I would tell them they’ll be working with someone who is deeply committed and will work just as hard for them as she did for us. Shannon brings strong, practical knowledge of construction that she’s able to apply in a variety of contexts. I have recommended her and will continue to do so for anyone seeking similar support.

I worked with Shannon on the White Center Food Bank project, where she was an invaluable partner on the owner team. The construction process was complicated, and significantly more work was required than anticipated due to substantial structural challenges and water damage. Shannon helped keep the project moving forward with a calm, collaborative approach alongside the contractor team. She’s a strong advocate for the owner, a great communicator, and someone who truly cares about the success of the project and the people it serves. I’d happily work with her again anytime.
